How to get the list of a folder from the server

Anyone know about how to get all file list of a folder from server-folder using any one of the scripting/programming languages like Java PHP Python Java-Script Bat Shell-Script etc. and any more other programing languages. If you know how to got this file lists, then please help to me I am creating a project and I want to achieve this concept into my programming knowledge.

I have tried many time but didn`t getting this. Please help me.

Most server side languages have a built-in command to read a path's files and folder entries? What have you tried?
