I'm trying to get glfwCreateWindowSurface to work but I'm always getting a -7 in return which is equal to VK_ERROR_EXTENSION_NOT_PRESENT. I noticed that the window opens for a fraction of a second before it's terminated. I tried a number of things including linking libvulkan.1.dylib directly into Xcode, checking the correct order by first initialising glfw before creating the surface, checking my Instance Extensions and a few other things but nothing seems to work. If I remove the surface creation alongside the physical and logical device creation, everything works fine.

I'm working on a Mac from 2019 with OSX 10.15.7 Catalina and Xcode 12. My Vulkan SDK Version is 1.2.162.1 and I downloaded the lastest GLFW version via homebrew. I've Imported Vulkan as framework into Xcode and GLFW as dylib.

Which extensions does the GLFW request? Check glfwGetRequiredInstanceExtensions against NULL, or check GLFW errors properly. Also use glfwVulkanSupported. - krOoze

After quite some research and back and forth, I have found the solution to my problem, though it is quite apple specific. As I've suspected the problem wasn't with the actual support for any instance extensions or Vulkan itself. Instead it was caused by the order in which I loaded the libraries and the Vulkan Framework into Xcode. In the Link Binaries With Libraries settings in the Build Phases tab I had to move the Vulkan Framework to the bottom in order to let all libraries and frameworks load correctly and to resolve my error. I don't quite know why that caused the problem, but somehow Xcode can't load the surface extension correctly if the Framework is linked first.
