I tried to explain the issue as much as I can please do let me know if you need more info.

Entity for the emphist table has a unique key which is set up like this

@Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="EMP_SERIAL_GERERATOR")
    @SequenceGenerator(name="EMP_SERIAL_GERERATOR", sequenceName="EMP_SERIAL",  allocationSize=1)
    @Column(name="EMP_SERIAL", nullable=false, precision=9)
    private long empSerial;

try {
            em.persist(EmphistNew);
        } catch (Exception e) {
            throw e;
        }

In the code, I am trying to persist a new record into my emphist table and I get the following error.

javax.persistence.PersistenceException: org.hibernate.PersistentObjectException: detached entity passed to persist: com.company.dep.project.model.emphist at Try to use the wrapper Long instead of a primitive. This error may be happening because Hibernate is trying to insert the entity with the default value 0.clayton.carmo
I tried changing the value to a wrapper Long. But no luck.Raja

It hard to say anything without seeing the whole code. But the exception is pretty self-descriptive:

detached entity passed to persist: com.company.dep.project.model.emphist

So, the ID field is already assigned at the moment persist() is invoked which is not allowed. If the object exists you need to call merge() to amend its state instead. Or you need to get to find out where the ID field was set in your code.

Don't pass Id(pk) while saving using persist() method or use save() method instead of persist().

After a lot research later I found that the H2 dB that I have does not have a sequence table which tells hibernate how many values it should count and how to keep track of values inserted and what to insert next. I created a sequence sql script for inserting a information.sequence named hst_series and annotated accordingly.
