I am currently using HoughCircles on computer-vision but I can't manage to make it work. How can this error be solved ?

@Jack Pass this statement img_gray = cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY) in the function get_circle() and then find the circles.Jeru Luke

As @jeru-luke has told in comment, you should add img = cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY) just before you call cv2.HoughCircles() :

COLOR_BGR2GRAY and not COLOR_GRAY2BGR

Error 215 is a sign that the image is not in a proper format fot the given color conversion.

scn == 3 || scn == 4 suggests that img is not a 3-channel or a 4-channel image, as required for BGR2GRAY.

Please add

print img.shape and see if the 3rd value is 1, instead of 3. This could be the reason for the error.

Your image is 3 dimensional I guess. Convert the image into grayscale using

img1 = cv2.cvtColor(img,cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY)
img1 = cv2.medianBlur(img1, 1)
circles = cv2.HoughCircles(img1, cv2.HOUGH_GRADIENT,1,20, param1=p1,param2=p2,minRadius=minR,maxRadius=maxR)
