I'm working on Spark 1.6.2 and I have a DataFrame with 102 columns:

f0, f1,....,f101

f0 contains indexes and f101 contains labels, and the other columns are numeric features (floats).

I'd like to train a random forest model (spark-ml) over this DataFrame.

So I have used VectorAssembler to output one feature columns in order to fit the model

from pyspark.ml.feature import VectorAssembler
ignore = ['f0', 'f101']
assembler = VectorAssembler(inputCols=[x for x in df.columns if x not in ignore], outputCol='features')

assembler.transform(df)
df.show()

But without success, this raises the following error:

py4j.protocol.Py4JJavaError: An error occurred while calling o255.transform.
: org.apache.spark.SparkException: VectorAssembler does not support the StringType type

Is there another to fit these multiple columns into the model ?

have you tried assigning the result of the list comprehension outside VectorAssembler() and then passing it as an arg?mtoto
Yes and I've got the same error I also tried to pass this list ['f1', 'f2'] and the same error occuredABK

We are going to use the parse_ udf that we defined here and concat_ws

This should do. I've just used a smaller example than yours.
