Why can't I visit the Stack Overflow website on my PC?

Why can't I visit the Stack Overflow website on my PC? - Meta Stack Overflow

Just yesterday, I tried visiting Stack Overflow from my PC and I can't seem to open the site. I keep on getting an error page with the message Your connection is not private. It goes on to say that the website is using HSTS.

I am having the same problem with other sites, especially Heroku. There is some work I wanted to deploy to heroku but I can't connect from my terminal.

Those websites still open fine from my phone and I use my phone that has a hotspot to connect my PC to the internet.

What are the possible remedies?

    I don't see how this is a Stack Overflow problem if it's happening on other sites... It should be asked on Super User or something...

    @HereticMonkey That's what I would have thought as well, but it might be ok, apparently. I'm still inclined to say this is off-topic, but I'm not sure enough to cast a CV.

    folks! This is very likely about root certs expiring yesterday (methinks yesterday). It would've been better off by being asked on MSE but I guess it is not a bad idea to ask here to be able to point folks towards this.

    This is a client issue not a sever issue in most cases especially if it’s about Stack Overflow by a user since their servers are properly providing a valid certificate chain. But the solution is simple, install the certificate, or update the OS.

  • @Oleg Valter. Thank you for the link. While it is not a stackoverflow problem directly, stackoverflow is still a platform to get insight about techincal challenges as is stated on the hompage. The link was helpful in directing me to stackexchange where the issue was discussed. I have not yet resolved the issue, however I now have an inkling about the cause of the issue.

    @NwaiwuIsidore Stack Overflow is not a platform for getting insight about technical challenges. Stack Overflow is a Q&A site for programming problems. There is a more general computer Q&A site called SuperUser.com that would be much more appropriate for solving your issue.

If you want to ask it on one of the main sites, I concur with others it should not be posted on Stack Overflow as general computing and OS-related issues are not on-topic presently (in a sense that we have a dedicated place where to ask them) - Super User sounds like the best case scenario for such a question. However, note that rene already linked (on the MSE post in comments) a question from Super User that has a detailed answer on what you should do in this case - thus, I suggest reviewing it before asking a new one.
