Have a new magento site, and have tried to implement shipping free for products within category X. 1 product can be in multiple categories. The issue I have is that when specifying free shipping for category X and other products are also in the cart, then the shipping should not be free, free shipping should only be applied where the cart only contains products from category X. This currently is not working.

under the conditions for this we have

Apply the rule only if the following conditions are met (leave blank for all products) If ALL of these conditions are TRUE : If an item is FOUND in the cart with ALL of these conditions true: Category is 14

Can anyone help please?

I would reverse this, I would set a rule to match on all products NOT in every other category. At the moment, you're including one category, and not adding a rule to exclude the others. - Douglas Radburn
thanks douglas, I just tried that, free shipping wasnt applied as the product in category 14 was also in one of the excluded categories (since 1 product can be in multiple categories.) still got the problem.... - Parteek Mahay

Would you try to make a rule at the tab "Action" and not at the Tab "Condition" (which will be empty).

Below at the Action tab you have another conditions field that is checked against every cart item separately, not to the whole cart. It says "Apply the rule only to cart items matching the following conditions (leave blank for all items)".
